Las Cruces Public Schools congratulates the first place winners of the 2024 Tell The Story LCPS Film Showcase.

This year, more than 200 student produced films and broadcast videos were submitted for the second annual event. More than 87 films were displayed on the big screen for moviegoers on March 20-21 at Cineport 10, Allen Theatres.

Families and friends joined as student filmmakers walked the red carpet. LCPS.TV field reporter’s Zaydrien Morales, from Sunrise Elementary and Samara Marquez from Centennial High School interviewed student directors and student producers as they experienced a dazzling night of cinema.

Motion Picture Roundup was the theme selected by the film showcase committee for this year’s competition.

It was a star-studded pair of nights at the Tell the Story LCPS Film Showcase as student filmmakers premiered their student driven films and broadcasts for the Las Cruces community to see.

With popcorn in hand, theatres filled up quickly for each showing, prompting an additional showing for competition films.

48-hour film competition, first place winners, Las Cruces High School, “Detention” (family film)

The Second Annual Tell the Story LCPS Film Showcase — Motion Picture Roundup

The Tell The Story LCPS Film Showcase included a noncompetitive category for students to submit their films and broadcasts. High schools entered the 48-hour film competition, elementary and middle schools submitted their movies for the 168-hour film competition. The challenge was to come up with a storyline, write, act, film, produce, and edit their movies all within the 48-hour and 168-hour deadline.

The 168-hour and the 48-hour film competitions were judged by industry professionals who were looking for desired elements for the film as instructed in the guidelines. Students had to incorporate a map as a prop for the film along with the line, “how did we get here?” scripted in the dialog.
